Quilting is a very special craft. Whenever I think of quilting, memories of my Mom flood in. After retiring from her first love of teaching third grade, she transferred her focus to her second passion, which was quilting. She would design, cut, piece, and quilt all by hand. There were no pre-cuts, no computer patterns, no cutting mats, rotary cutters or computerized longarm machines. Mom would spend a couple of hours each day quilting her small precise stitches at her wooden quilting frame (see picture on homepage) while listening to her favorite radio programs. I have a few of her treasures and marvel at her handiwork. I wonder what Mom would think of my computerized longarm quilter.
Years ago my first attempt at quilting was a disaster. Stitching was not straight, points were cut off and seams did not match. I did, however, love the experience so stayed with the learning process. I have enjoyed many tutorials, classes, retreats and lots of friendly advice. Practice does make perfect - well nearly.
After our retirement, my husband Ed and I traveled and one of the funnest destinations was Hamilton, MO where the Missouri Star Quilt Company is located. We had a wonderful experience and became fascinated not only with all the quilting materials and supplies but with the company itself. As time went by, I found myself sending quilts off to be quilted and waiting for them to be returned. I never dreamed of having a longarm quilting machine of my own. But with lots of time on our hands we were looking for something meaningful to do with ourselves. This is where our longarm quilting business idea began.
Now we have our sweet quilting studio with our beautiful Gammill longarm quilter with its computerized Statler Stitcher. It is a joy to spend our time being creative and visiting with and serving lovely quilters all over the nation.
We consider quilts to be more than pretty blankets. They are made up of labors of love and are full of memories of the quilter—maybe Mom or Grandma, the recipient—maybe a friend, relative, or special veteran, and the occasion—maybe a birthday, graduation, or wedding. Quilts live for years, passed from friend to friend, or generation to generation. They are very special works of art.
Here at Memories…A Longarm Quilting Studio, we recognize how special your quilts are, and our promise is to treat them as if they were our own—better yet, as if they were Mom’s. We know that our clients have many choices as to who they trust with their treasured quilting. Our goal is to provide the highest quality of service while staying within a reasonable budget and delivering in an acceptable time frame.
Thank you for your trust,
Maureen and Ed Breen
